CarboSeal® in Action – 160 Meters of District Heating Pipes Renewed in Trondheim

A critical section of Trondheim’s district network was suffering from significant leakage in the plastic jacket of the supply pipe. Statkraft needed a fast and sustainable solution to avoid further corrosion on their steel pipes, which were rusty and clearly in need of renovation. The affected segment – part of a PN25 system – ran under a busy intersection in the southern part of the city and included two DN250 pipes, each around 80 meters long. Excavation and long-term road closures were simply not an option. Trenchless relining with CarboSeal® was the ideal answer.

We arrived on-site Sunday afternoon and completed the full installation by Tuesday afternoon – just 48 hours later. Quick, efficient, and with minimal disruption to traffic and the district heating customers.

Some milling work was required due to sharp-edged and oversized welds, but nothing our team and technology couldn’t handle.

From the first contact at the end of January to completion just over two months later, this project came together with speed and precision. Thanks to our installation partner Pollex AB and the support of local construction and welding companies, the renewal of 2×80 meters was successfully executed.

And this wasn’t just another installation – it marked a true milestone: the very first CarboSeal® project completed in Norway.

A win for Statkraft. A win for Trondheim’s citizens. And a win for future-proof infrastructure.
